Taking a gap year prepares you better for university, here’s how
18 year old me didn’t have a clue about what she wanted to do in life for work; I wasn’t even sure whether I wanted to go to university. Quite frankly, 18 feels way too young to know what you’ll probably be doing for the rest of your professional life. I remember I found psychology fascinating at the time and it was one of my A Levels (the equivalent of AP examinations in the US). So as I continued to study it in depth I came to the conclusion I would go to university to study a psychology degree in hope of becoming a child psychologist after!
When I tell you that in the end I graduated from a computer science degree instead, you might wonder what happened in between.
What happened?
I didn’t get the required grades to study my psychology degree at my preferred university so I deferred my entry until the following year. After reflecting for a few months, I realised that I had chosen to study psychology on a whim and so I decided to withdraw my application completely. This meant that it was time to look for a job.
In the 3 years that followed, I worked in various roles for a variety of industries including a shipping agency, a real estate agent and an online gaming company. All of them taught me invaluable life lessons, but my role as a web content…
